The San Jose Mercury News has posted an on-line poll about whether or not Al Gore deserves the Nobel Prize for Peace. It has become a repository of restating the same talking point lies e.g. Gore said he invented the internet and a British judge ruled that An Inconvenient Truth had 9 outright lies. Currently 45% have voted that Gore did not deserve the award. Please freep this poll at www.mercurynews.com/news
We had the right candidate, at the right time, with the right message. We won all the debates and had concrete solutions to all the domestic problems. We had all the necessary endorsements. We had a driven and mobilized GOTV effort. We had enough money. We lost because we didn't anticipate the gay rights wedge issue and effectively counter it in the evangelical Christian communities. Had we preemptively targeted the ec's in Ohio and Florida with mailers and leaflets on their windshields during mass we could have blunted the last minute Rove tactics. If we couched our message in biblical terms, the message could have resonated.
Because so many of Bush's policies are contrary to the teachings of the New Testament, we should use every anti-bible act of the administration to blitz the "cracker" states. Mad Magazine had a great parody of a Jesus versus Bush campaign. We should be able to use this to our advantage. A great 527 organization could target the bible belt with an ad campaign that constantly hits "Bush says (in a sarcastic voice) he is a born again Christian... and then point out any contradiction. Was Jesus wrong? We should be able to slam them with his tax policies, war policies, the death penalty etc. Rove's success is largely based upon mobilizing the Christians. We should be able to counter that with the bible. Air America has been very successful but it targets the progressive liberal listener. It might be effective to start a Christian station that pounds the anti-Christian behavior of the Repugs. Because "moral values" was the number one issue on the minds of the "Christian" voters, that is where we should target our attacks. We should remember that Carl Rove is an agnostic, but that doesn't stop him from targeting Christians. Shouldn't we?
Today I received a campaign solicitation from Bill Clinton. The request for a contribution included a matching funds inducement. I have been funneling money into ACT, Moveon.org, Veterans for Truth, the DNC, Barbara Boxer, and Moveonpac.org on a daily basis and had pretty much decided that the last $250 was going to be it for the campaign. Bill got me for another $500. I was encouraged to hear that my co-worker in the next office was unable to say no to Bill and was in for another $250. Bill has a Svengali effect on me. I'm sure my last contribution won't come until Kerry has won the election and the lawsuits have been resolved. Has Bill had this effect on anybody else. The pain in my wallet won't compare to the pain in the ass of four more years of Bu$h.
I wrote a lengthy email to GMC to voice my disapproval of their advertisment dollars being spent on Sinclair. Because my family and I have a long history of purchasing GM automobiles a boycott would have some effect on their bottom line. Anybody that wants to write to GM can access proper cite at http://www.gm.com/gmcomjsp/contactus/email.html
