A daily blog in defense of liberalism and the President.
I am posting late today because I had the sad opportunity to go to a "town hall" meeting with my Representative, Congressman Tim Johnson Republican from Illinois. To say it was pointless would be wrong, I did find out that I live in a community that hates Mexicans, and are terrified the government is going to pay for abortions, and is sure that President Obama is trying to turn America into a communist country. I will say there was about a third of the audience who where either liberals or progressives, but as Tim told us he was not there to debate, he was there to tell us how Obama is trying to destroy America and bankrupt future generations. I did find out that my congressman is insane, because even confronted with the general accepted facts about our healthcare and where it ranks in the world he still believes we have the finest Healthcare system in the world. This is because Rep. Johnson and all those who use the same talking points confuse our nations overall healthcare system with the quality of our doctors. It is true that rich people around the world come to the United States for healthcare, and yes if I had cancer and I was rich I would want to go to the greatest specialist in the world, and most are in the U.S. On the other hand the issue is access and millions of Americans have no access to the top anything in this country and certainly not healthcare.
Johnson also wanted to point out how we are running up the deficit, yet he and his blind ass Party were the ones who gave tax cuts to the rich and then started a war they had no money to pay for. Did Johnson acknowledge this fact? No, of course not, he just wanted to talk about how Obama is spending like a mad man, but takes no responsibility for borrowing money for years and years under Bush and just passed the buck on. A friend of mine asked him a question and instead of answering it Johnson got all indignant because my friend used the term "right". Tim Johnson I guess doesn’t think of himself as a right-winger, or at least gets very upset about being referred to as one, yet all his policies and bullshit scream Right Wing dipshit, and half truth liar.
Near the end of his hour long avoidance of answers an old man, who must have been watching his Glen Beck asked about why Obama is nominating Czars, and how that is leading to communism, and he was scared. Instead of assuring the man that Obama was not leading us down the path to communism, Johnson not missing an opportunity to insult the President said he and other Republicans sent a letter to the White House pointing out that Czar was a negative term used by Russians, and something else blah, blah, blah. Of course he didn’t point out that the term for instance Drug Czar has been used for decades by both Republican and Democratic Administrations. Because Johnson had no desire to talk truth or fact, just bash the President and try and destroy his policies.
I also found out that Tim Johnson and many in my community hate "Illegals" and he wanted to let everyone know the bold face lie that passing Obama’s healthcare plan is just a way to give medical care to these horrible people who are a scourge on the fabric of our fine society. Of course it was once again a total lie, and sadly the truth is we already pay for their healthcare because if they go to an emergency room they get treated if they don’t pay for it when billed it gets passed onto everyone else, so we are already paying for it, but why let a little thing like the truth stand in the way of race hating and inflammatory talk. What I took away was we really need to get rid of this bastard who is more concerned with the status quo and cutting funding for the poor than finding any real solutions for the problems we face. I know I will do everything I can do to have this dishonest corrupt asshole replaced by someone who will be more progressive and actually care about what we the people are dealing with.
Finally I come to the Philosopher of the Week, Richard Bach, who said, "The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls the butterfly." Prospective is a wonderful thing, more people ought to find some. Bach also wrote, "You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however." I love this and believe deeply in this idea that we have power to control our future, and if we work and believe we can do anything. Well friends stay positive, I probably forgot some of the crazy shit I heard at that town hall if I remember more I will post it, anyway, until tomorrow goodbye...
