McCain say's we are in the Middle East just for Oil.
Watch the video:
My friends, I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will - that will then prevent us - that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.
So, in other words: Once we are energy independent, those crazy bastards over there in the Middle East can just kill each other and we can ignore it and go on not giving two shits just like Darfur and Rowanda.
I can't wait to see Howard Dean beat McCain over the head with this one.

the logical conclusion is with oil independence USA NO longer support Israel either, remember the CW re: Israel.
And now reread this
that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.
Ergo if JMC gets to implement his energy policy, USA armed forces will no longer be available ever to support Israel, remember the Patriot missile defense on both Gulf Wars, well no oil no missiles, no training personnel for state of the art weapons systems, no combat air patrol over Jerusalem or last dish US marines divisions to prevent the destruction of the State of Israel if the Arab states attack it.
And that my friend is pandering to the isolationist crowd at the level of HRC's "obliterate" to the AIPAC crowd. I am going to love the furious backpedaling on this one, a lot of GOP constituencies take the whistle blowing to heart, AIPAC don't they require clear and unambiguous statements of support.

forces to Lebanon for the purpose of training the Lebanese Army. Now the French are already in position between Lebanon and Israel supposedly to separate the combatants and the German navy is on patrol off Lebanon to cut down on infiltration and smuggling.
However, listening to the news this morning, I have little hope of there ever being peace; Israel announced yesterday, as another precondition to their opening their blockade of Gaza that Hamas would have to first of all have to stop firing rockets into Israel.
The problem with this (it would be nice if Hamas could stop such things) is that not all the rockets are fired by Hamas. A goodly portion comes from militias associated with Fatah, which is Olmert's buddy. In addition, between the extrajudicial executions of leadership, the imprisonment of Hamas elected officials, and the banishment of other Hamas leaders, there is really no one with sufficient influence in Gaza to order the rocketeers to stop. Orders from Damascus don't carry that much weight and if a leader in Gaza does gain enough influence to make such an order he will either be jailed or assassinated instead of negotiated with.
Somehow the Israelis fail to see that chaos begets chaos and they will have to allow some sort of political development and organization in the OTs before they have someone to negotiate with. South Africa and Ireland proved this.
by entlord1 on Sat May 03, 2008 at 06:42:21 AM PDT
and only with the active support of members of the US govt and hawks around the world, it will take a long time to get better as in both the population of Israel and neighboring areas will be able to live their lives with a resemblance of normalcy.
Right now what were are seeing is a "time out" b/c the elections in the US, the presence of foreign forces in this context helps to keep the fighting at a low level.
Like a lot of other important issues, Irak, Deficit, recession, etc. there a lot of posturing and no action until after the elections, no really important political or economics player want to be on the wrong side of the next POTUS or want to make it more difficult to get there for their preferred choice.

"Race to the White House" takes boring to a whole new level. The only thing that saves it is Rachel Maddow and Eugene Robinson. I just love Rachel Maddow. I have tried to watch a couple of times. But it takes so long to get to Rachel, I can't stand it. She is usually the one that has the most insightful response to the particular days headlines.
Also, I agree with you that the content is probably out of David Gregory's hands. No doubt the management is pushing the Wright mess and anything else that could cause trouble for Barack.
At this point, the only thing that I can watch on MSNBC, without making skid marks to the remote for the mute button, is Countdown with Keith Olbermann. He is a beacon in a sea of useless non-sense and puff pieces.
by Ladyhawk on Sat May 03, 2008 at 05:19:08 AM PDT
he is responsible for his own preposterous, distorted statements----and they are numerous. His program is unwatchable, even with the sanity of Maddow and Robinson.

Tony Blankley is a buffoon. He speaks in such platitudes as if his perspective is the only rational one. You can smell his smarmy attempts to make Obama look bad a mile away. And it stinks, even through the car radio ...

They just don't advertise it..
I called Comcast last month to complain about my bill and finally talked to a woman who was going to help me get set up with a new plan.
So, I was paying $192 a month and now I'm paying $96 a month for nearly the exact same services!
Here's the difference.. they put me onto a non-advertised highspeed internet plan called "economy" or some such nonsense. They say I now have a max speed of 3MB down..
I haven't noticed the difference.. So they either have a way of downgrading specific customer's internet service or it's just marketing bullshit.
You're not the first squeaky wheel I've heard about who finally started getting exceptional service. So, I'm leaning towards the idea that Comcast can jack around with everyone's throughput as much as they want. And they could use whatever criteria, including content, to base their decisions on.

the MSM is missing the real story about the fence they are building along the Rio Grande. First, it is unpopular as it is dispossessing families who have owned the land for several generations and also is a potential ecological problem, as well as destroying potential historical sites.
The main story is that FOB (friends of the Bushes) are exempt from the fence. Yep, if you are a Bush Buddy, then don't worry about an unsightly fence marring your property. In some cases this leaves gaps in the fence over a mile long and in one case, a developer was assured that there would be no impediment to his planned mall and "shopway" which would extend into Mexico. Why swim the Rio Grande when you can slip into the US by shopping your way in?
Bottom line is the fence will not work and is not planned to work; just placate some people while not upsetting others. Typical.

A big benefit I see of the fence, is that immigrant workers who come in will be documented and thus protected from employers. Currently, illegal immigrants are basically the unseen slaves of the US middle class. Their working conditions are unsafe, they get no medical benefits, overlong work hours, below minimum wage, and are subject to arrest and imprisonment at any time. Add to that, many states pass laws making them unable to open bank accounts, so they are subject to robbery. Then there is also the fact they are easily victimized (raped, assaulted, bullied, robbed), since they can't contact the police out of fear of getting deported. There are a lot of work visas, for much of the work illegal immigrants do... in fact, unlimited work visas for farm work, which is huge especially on the west coast of the US. Farmers don't get work visas, since it would mean they would have to pay their workers minimum wages. If workers couldn't cross the border except with a permit, that means every worker will get higher wages, safer work, and a safer life. I am very much for the border, for that reason.

We face two very close contests in North Carolina and Indiana -- two of the biggest states left to vote in the Democratic primary.
With thousands of voters who haven't been reached yet in both states, what we do -- or don't do -- in the next four days will be decisive.
This weekend is our last, best chance to make an impact before May 6th, and you can help from your own home by using our online calling tool. The most important thing you can do between now and Tuesday is reach out to your fellow voters in these key battleground states.
You've been one of our strongest supporters, and you know there's nothing more effective than a person-to-person conversation. Remind Obama supporters to vote and talk to undecided voters about the kind of change Barack will bring to this country.
We hope we can count on you to make calls this weekend. Get started right away:

With our online calling tool, it's never been easier to make an impact:
When you log in, you'll get a list of 25 names that only you will receive. (If you don't have a My.BarackObama account, creating one is fast and easy.) Click on a name and you'll be led through a simple script, question by question. If you want, you can now print your numbers and the script and enter your results back into the system later. http://my.barackobama.com/...

Sen. Whitehouse of the SJC has called for hearing on the recent firing of the EPA director who opposed Dow and the politicization of that Agency.
I'll insert the link to TPM in a sec.
That and the open thread gives me the opportunity to get something off my chest. (Cross-asked at TPM, answers accepted in either place). I quote myself,in extenso (my words, my rights!)
I agree he is a superstar and, since his revelations about the secret DOJ memos undoing Marbury v. Madison ("if you feel less american now, you are right," he more or less said) a godsend to the protection of the rule of law. I admire him, with a quibble. Perhaps someone can explain this event that I found out of character. From the start of the USA hearings, he has been talked about as a potential AG here in the BlueBayState and probably in his own "Hope" state (yes, incredibly, that's the RI motto). He is a firm Clinton supporter, because, I believe he says, BC gave him his political start by appting him as a USA. And if he is aspiring to be AG, his support makes perfect sense. I can respect that. What I don't respect is his support and appreciation for HC's "celestial choir" mocking of Obama just before he RI primaries. He was seated right behind her, and perhaps that was a constraint. Still, as a freshman member of a body whose m.o. is comity, surely he owed his fellow freshman a bit more respect than the flat out giggles he gave that remark. Also, as a former prosecutor and a pol, he must have the where with all to control his facial expression.

He will be the keynote speaker at the DNC in Denver, regardless of who is the nominee. He used to be a republican, a former Marine, and SecNav. In an election that the GOP's argument is going to be stuck to flag pins and guilt by association, it will take the Dems spotlighting its most conventional-wisdom patriot and ex-GOP member, to put the nail in the coffin.
I get pumped up thinking about it.

Excerpt A Community Pharmacist Speaks Out: What Med-Cal Cuts Passed Earlier This Year Means to My Patients—And the State of California The 10% across the board Medi-Cal provider cuts that were passed almost unanimously by both Houses of the State Legislature and signed by the Governor spell doom for both patients and providers. Once again a group of politicians made no effort to get input from either the beneficiary or provider groups. They just took an axe and cut away 10% of the budget deficit. Paying no attention to what these cuts will do in the short term as well as the long term. In the short term, all expensive life saving drugs will be effectively removed from Medi-Cal other than getting them via hospitalization. This is a rather costly way to provide prescription drugs to patients. One example of a drug in this category is Thalomid. It is used for multiple myeloma and we use a lot of it. In a quantity of 84, which represents the patient taking 3 capsules a day for 28 days, the reimbursement goes from a current gross profit of $303.38 to a gross loss of $477.02. This is based on a drug that costs our pharmacy $7,856.97. In study after study any drug that has an Average Wholesale Cost of $95.00 or more, the pharmacy begins losing money. It is true that chain drug stores get a slightly better price in purchasing these drugs, but this 10% cut will eliminate their ability to fill these prescription drugs at a profit as well. Most of my patients have Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease, Kidney Failure or Cancer to name a few. To treat any of these conditions takes medications that are very costly. What will happen to these patients? As I said earlier they could be hospitalized and hopefully receive these life sustaining medications. This would overload our already overloaded hospital system. More than likely, they would just stop getting these medications resulting in death or at the very least severe complications. This would require additional treatment, another added expense for the already strapped Medi-Cal system (which currently ranks in the bottom three of all states in expenditure per patient). One of the things that we do is deliver to these patients who are mostly shut-ins. What will happen to them when we can no longer service them? These cuts were made with no thinking and will cost the state a lot more money than it is currently spending for a system that serves the patients who can least afford it.

Personally, I think that this is just a sign that Kos is one of those hot Latin lovers. :-)
It's pretty hard to hate someone when you put a face to their name. Keeping Latinas out of the U.S. might appeal in theory to many people, but if you strip it down to the individual person, then it's not so simple.
And what happens if they all do go away?
